As a child every Saturday there was no cooking at all. We had cereal for breakfast and no porridge. Then in mid afternoon the trolley and table in the lounge was laden with cakes and sandwiches that mum made the evening before and kept in the fridge.
We were allowed to eat in the lounge and watch TV at the same time. It was a really special day and I remember it to this day. Sadly it is not a tradition that I was able to keep to due to the utter monstrosity of the circumstances I lived in as my children were growing up.
Yet this tradition was passed on by my grandparents and as my children grow into adulthood I look forward to being able to reintroduce these traditions to family life as my grandparents did.
The Saturday tradition was always really special and one that I loved.
