Scars …

Daily writing prompt
Which aspects do you think makes a person unique?

No matter our skin colour, race, religion or sex at birth. These actually are the aspects of being human that give all humans similarity. Yet what makes us unique is what scars we incur with the body that was God given.

My personality and my sense of self is unique, however, personalities can fall into the designated groups, Maslow shows us that self actualization is possible for all humans give the conditions. So what sets us apart and makes us truly unique I believe are our scars.

My scars and marks make my body unique, they are a part of me that makes me, body and my lived experience unique. I was born with a number of birth marks on my skin. Each is unique, none are the same as any other person in position, shape or size. Ihave undergone surgery and have a number of scars that denote a medical intervention in both cases life saving surgery. After birth of children I was left with signifcant scarring that is the physical reminder of being a a mother.

The scarring that has also caused a very unique part of me and I beieve any survivor or torture or violence, are the scars that only a scanner can see on our brains. In America technology was created that can identify brain damage from trauma, essentially brain scarring. As a survivor with PTSD, when I have a triggered episode that is eaxctly what it feels like. Distress as the very inner part of my brain is painful and although the distress is is external the pain is physical.

These scars, along with the vaginal tearing from one of the attacks and the internal vaginal injuries, Is what has truely made me unique. The scars and markings have created a unique human being. Every person has those markings or scars to a greater or lesser extent, it is for me what makes each of us a unique human being…
